Warm and outgoing, Philadelphia born Virjette LaCour (Owens) is a graduate of Temple University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater and she also holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theater from the Mason Gross Conservatory at Rutgers University.  Often cast as the momma or friend, mainly because she has an air of authority and trust.  Virjette has been featured in several regional productions and continues to act.  

 

As a vocalist, Virjette connects with her audiences through song and includes Jazz, R&B, and the American Standard Songbook in her repertoire.  She has performed at venues: Chima Brazilian Steakhouse, Manayunk Brewery, University of Pennsylvania Hospital, South Street Blues, Ohara's Seafood Restaurant, Gryphon Coffee House, Lutheran Church Jazz Vespers, Leziz Turkish Restaurant and the Community Education Center.  Virjette was a featured vocalist at the first West Oak Lane Jazz Festival in Philadelphia, Pa.  She continues to sing whenever possible.

 

Virjette earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Costume Design from Rutgers University's conservatory, the Mason Gross School of the Arts.  She has used her skills and knowledge to create costumes for theater, television and film and is now designing a clothing line for women.

 

As Executive Director of DNP Women of Music, Virjette hosted, coordinated, filmed and edited two documentaries featuring Philadelphia Jazz Icons, Miss Ella Gahnt and Carol Harris.  These documentaries are shown on PhillyCAM and has become a part of their ongoing TV schedule.  Most recently Virjette sponsored a loving tribute to these two icons and it was a stellar success!
